MES is software used to coordinate, record, and monitor production activity close to the shop floor.
What it means in manufacturing
An MES may cover dispatch, operator work, equipment context, work-in-process, data collection, and production history. Its boundary with ERP, quality, and automation systems differs by plant and vendor.

Which system owns the released work, the operator transaction, the current quantity, and the correction when floor data is late or wrong?
